Hello early spring! It’s time for fiddleheads, but they won’t be around long! I picked up some fiddlehead ferns at Whole Foods last week for the first time, and now I just can’t get enough of them. Imagine the best asparagus you’ve ever had, and then take away the bitter taste – that’s what a fiddlehead tastes like. Plus, they’re absolutely beautiful: they look like curled end of a stringed

Taze Turkish Cuisine and Hookah & Beer Garden Brooklyn Heights NY 142 Montague St Brooklyn Heights NY (718) 875 – 2211 www.TazeNYC.com Among the brightly lit shops and restaurants on Montague St in Brooklyn Heights is a very personable Mediterannean and Turkish restaurant called Taze. Just to get into the restaurant feels like you are going over to a friend’s house as you enter into an unmarked apartment building entrance and walk up a flight of stairs (watch out for the mail that is perched over the mailboxes next to the staircase!). Once inside, you have a choice of sitting at one of the tables that overlook Montague (great people watching viewpoints) or taking a tour through the kitchen to get toTaze’s hidden outdoor patio

This past Tuesday, on my day off, I was enjoying dinner with my wife and two boys, telling them about the latest wacky bruleé flavor, when my oldest son, Xavier, informed me he had an idea for a bruleé flavor: “You could do apples and cinnamon, Dad.”Okay, I said…..”I’ll do apples and cinnamon.” The very next day, that’s exactly what I did. But nothing is ever simple when it comes to me and bruleé. So, I thought about how we could make it exciting, and a little interesting, and came to an inspiration from Jenny’s Ice Cream here in Columbus, in a fall flavor they had last year called “Red Hot Apple Cider.” (When we got it at Jenny’s we paired it with her “Salty Caramel and It tasted just like apple pie) So, I made a custard with some granny smith apples, and cinnamon schnapps, and fresh cinnamon, baked it off, and the “Red Hot” flavor wasn’t prominent enough.

We, in the wine industry as part of our daily rituals in prayer and salutation to the gods of excise and customs, say a word of thanks to the slowly developing core of wine drinkers who, along with our tireless attitudes and optimistic energies, help propel this industry forward to the dizzy heights we know it can achieve. Cleve Washington , both surprised and gratified, reports on the launch of the FWM Club in Lucknow.

One of my favourite places to eat within walking distance of my office – in fact, come to think of it, the only decent place to eat within walking distance of my office, is 32 Great Queen Street. It’s a lovely, buzzy place with charming staff and tasty, uncomplicated food and I’ve never had a bad meal there.

It is ironic that although amaranth is my least favorite of the gluten-free grains or pseudo-grains that I’m eating, I’ve managed to come up with a fair number of recipes using the flour that I actually like. Maybe it is all part of that necessity being the mother of invention thing… however that saying goes

I’ve had a number of conversations with Couchsurfers over the years to gauge their personal beliefs and political opinions. For some reason, I always tend to think of travelers, by and large, as liberal free thinkers. This is hardly the case for everyone, but what is it about Christianity and other western religions that keeps me thinking it’s impossible for an educated, well-traveled individual to believe in them?

T he jaundice had whittled her down by half or more, and everyone was exclaiming over the transformation. She was just nine, too young to hope the loss of appetite would be permanent in the interests of her figure. Talk about shattering preconceptions about wine. “Steven Spurrier’s take on the current wine scenario is that the French are drinking less wine, the Chinese can’t get enough and that India is the next big market,” writes Parvathi Nayar .
