Uptown Juice Bar reviewed by djembe on June 4, 2010

How can you trust this place of lies?Surely if a man cheats on his wife he will lie to his customers.Vegan my ass. This is not a vegan restaurant and should mot be on this vegan sight. The juice is NOT ORGANIC.The food is NOT ORGANIC.And to add insult to the matter the so called vegan loaf contains eggs as well as the so called veggie burgers contain eggs.Where is thia info made knowm to the public who eat there?NOWHERE .WHAT A SHAME!If i wanted eggs i could eat an egg sandwhich.Competion was never more needed in this Harlem community. The pots are not even clean.(Food poisoning anyone?)Mice and roaches running around in the food prep area and I cannot wait until the city makes restaurants post a letter grade to let the public know how clean the place is or as in this case how clean it is not.Go in the bathroom and try to wash your hands and you will see for yourself.I hope you find some soap to use.The selections are always the same foods with little or no changes. No attention is paid to detail. And if you wonder why the employess are sometimes not nice, well how nice would you be if you be if you were being made to stand over a hot steam table and be underpaid? Not even minimum wage.Really, competion by a person with a sense of concern for others is needed here.Food served by a unhappy employer has bad vibes.Check out the Watkins juice bar a few doors down They have real good oranic smoothies and juices! Grand Opening of Prestons Restaurant at Coast Coal Harbour Hotel

Whenever I am invited to restaurant openings, I am almost always betting I’m going to bump into a bunch of my food blogger friends. It is a nice departure from other social media events I attend and one that I really enjoy. As the organizer of the Vancouver Blogger Meetup , I feel kind of responsible to know just about every blogger in Vancouver, even if they don’t know each other prior

Vetri (Philadelphia)

Vetri is the most famous restaurant in town, it’s been called “Possibly the best Italian restaurant on the east coast” by Mario’s Batali, some even claimed it’s the “best Italian restaurant in America.” Getting a table was difficult, but I managed to squeeze myself in on a Monday on that same morning.

AKB48 – Ponytail, bikini, sunshine & beach

Music video of Ponytail to Shushu (ポニーテールとシュシュ; Ponytail & Scrunchy) by Japanese girl group AKB48 . Plenty of bikinis, sunshine and beach; filmed in Guam… Contrary to their conservative neighbours, it’s pretty common for mainstream Japanese idols to don in bikinis for MV/pictorials beside the fact that most of them are doing so at teen age. It’s almost a cultural thing; you can hardly find a popular Japanese female star who has never shot a bikini video or photobook

The relevance of the BP oil spill for global environmental politics

photo credit: centralasian Having had one of the world’s foremost authorities on climate change as a PhD advisor when I was doing my doctorate was a bit challenging at times, because a lot of people didn’t understand how could I be supervised by a climate expert and NOT be interested in climate policy at all.

Pushing beyond my physical limits to complete a project

I am not a bad planner, in general. I live a very regimented life that includes exercise, academic work, social media appearances, speaking engagements, teaching, research and time with my friends. But every so often, I leave *something* behind that needs to be taken care of, and that will, eventually, be resolved (if and when I put the time).

Sesame Honey Chilli Potatoes

Sesame Honey Chilli Potatoes Popular Indo-Chinese recipe, Honey Chili Potatoes, owes it flavor to honey and fiery red chilies. I like the deep fried restaurant version but I prefer the healthy home made method where the potatoes are baked before being tossed in a sweet and hot sauce and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds.

Hamilton restaurant removes silly urinals

For three years The Honest Lawyer in Hamilton, Ontario had silly ridiculous urinals in the men’s rest room shaped like open mouths. Then 8 months ago a women’s group somehow discovered the urinals and took offense to them, there is no explanation as to why the members of the women’s group were snooping around the men’s restroom

Whole Earth Bakery & Kitchen reviewed by Li on June 2, 2010

I have had two desserts from this place that were horrible and so-so, respectively the ginger snaps and a chocolate chip cookie that tasted more like corn bread with chocolate chips and couldn’t be held without falling apart. I brought the ginger snaps to a party and no one liked them which is not good for my “try-to-turn-my-friends-vegan” movement. I’m going to go back because the people are very nice and i do like how healthy everything is

Listen up: TuneSmith’s musical recommendations for June

Our TuneSmith , Rob Wood, the ears behind our seductive CD collection , selects the first instalment of Smith’s soundtrack to summer… ALBUM OF THE MONTH Down the Way by Angus & Julia Stone When You need to put things in perspective Why It’s life-affirming, soul-enhancing music These Australian siblings don’t make complicated music. Theirs is an art born out of relatively simple songcraft. Yet somehow their folky singer-songwriter approach to music-making still sounds like one of a kind

Godspell at @PacificTheatre (review)

I was invited by my friends at Pacific Theatre to come along to the opening night of Godspell , a musical by Stephen Schwartz & John-Michael Tebelakand and staged by Pacific Theatre. You may recall that I gave away a pair of tickets for my readers a few weeks back . I couldn’t make it on opening night, but I jumped at the opportunity to do the Sing Along Night, a total experiment that they were running.

What Is Tsoi Tsim?

…I don’t know, and Google hardly knows either! Well, after buying and cooking it yesterday, I now know a little bit about it. I found it at the Copley Farmers’ Market yesterday evening, tucked between more familiar greens at the Atlas Farm booth. It was marked $2.50/bunch, and next to the price was a Sharpied note to “be adventurous.” How could I resist

Quick Bread Cutlets

With 4 slices of left over bread and boiled potatoes (prepared Aloo parathas yesterday), I prepared quick bread cutlets for our evening tea time snack. Not much of a recipe really, used left overs that I combined with spices, chopped onions and fresh coriander leaves and shallow fried till golden crisp. Fun, fast, healthy and tasty alternate to deep fried snacks.
