Hong Kong is one of the most ideal places to see where a complex history and interwoven cultures have created one of the truly great modern cities of the world. Visitors can be overwhelmed by the culture and society before they have even seen any of the sights, especially on a short visit. But here are some that visitors should definitely see, no matter how great their culture shock

Another day, another food truck! I had so much fun acquiring lunch from the Fillbelly’s comfort food truck on Tuesday that on Wednesday I decided to venture farther to try out another truck I’ve had my eye on: Clover Food Lab. After over a year of success near MIT, the Clover folks decided to add a second location at Dewey Square, right outside of South Station, which is just a twenty minute

For every picnic, every class trip, every water park day, and every opportunity for packed lunch, I asked my mom for sushi. Little did I know then that the “sushi” my mom made for me is not what most would call sushi. When we think of sushi and maki rolls, we usually think of the Japanese kind or the Americanized-Japanese kind

At least, I tried to avoid it at all costs. Even with the convenience of room service, the food was too often bland, overdone, predictable or just plain bad. And honestly, there’s not much worse than paying too much for a meal you can’t stand to finish

Last weekend on the 17th of July, Baby Yum and I celebrated our respective birthdays with a lovely birthday party full of friends, food, and celebration. It was her first birthday, and it was my… well, let’s just say it was NOT my first birthday. However, it was my first birthday with a darling baby daughter by my side

Review by Holydrummer This post is dedicated especially to all Brazil fans – which is really half of our entire population! I think that some of you are probably wishing that Felipe Melo would retire (early) as a professional footballer to be a passador. H e would be happier.

My Mom left this morning (she went back to Mexico) which means that I am literally back to work and hitting the ground running. The first thing I wanted to do was check back on my client work, on my research and teaching, and the various things I have to deal with as July draws to an end. A couple of days ago, my good friend and co-organizer of Mental Health Camp Vancouver 2010 posted her second recap of MHCYVR10 (you can read tweets associated with the hashtag #mhcyvr10 here )

Many people know that Yellowstone National Park was the first such park in the world, and almost everyone knows about the majestic beauty of the park. It seems that fewer people are aware of just how big the park is and how far away from major cities and airports it is.

I had wanted my Mom to spend some more time with JT than just a brief “ hi, how are you ” so I took him and my Mom for dinner to what was the last of the Glowbal Group restaurant chain in my list of “ I have to eat here “. While I have been to the original Italian Kitchen (in downtown Vancouver, Alberni and Burrard), I hadn’t been yet to Trattoria Italian Kitchen .

I have several good friends who knit, but I had not heard of knitting for a good cause in recent months, so when my friend Harriet Fancott approached me about a campaign she is working on to raise awareness around the PURPLE CRYING phase (essentially babies cry a lot in the first couple of months), I had to listen.

China’s Three Gorges Dam is holding up against its first major flood-control test. The flow on the Yangtze River’s upper reaches topped 70,000 cubic metres a second Tuesday – 20,000 more than the flow during the 1998 floods that killed 4,150 people and the highest level since the dam was completed last year

I’ve mentioned before how carried away I get at the farmers market, especially when it comes to gorgeous fruit. So on my counter (that only needs to feed two people, mind you) spring’s strawberry surplus ( make jam! ) has given way to a summer bounty of peaches, plums and apricots. I picked up a pint each of Toigo Orchards mini plums and apricots at the Penn Quarter FreshFarm Market last week and turned them into this simple tart.
