Today in Letter Grades: Instead of appealing their "B"…

Instead of appealing their “B” grade from the DOH and putting up a “Grade Pending” sign, Veselka in the East Village is rolling with the big B in the window, and apparently customers don’t seem to mind. Naturally, the restaurant hopes to ace future inspections, but as one of the managers told the WSJ “When you walk in, you can look around and see if it is clean enough or not clean enough. Our customers are walking in and seeing that it is clean.” [WSJ]

Daniel is a White, Geeky Machete

Geeks Who Drink Blog This last Geeks was an abnormal one for The Rockslide; the overcast clouds threatened to end the show before it began, and our fearless alcoholic leader was absent, which left me in charge for the first time ever. Dustin and I were like two fat, belligerent versions of Lindsay Lohan from The Parent Trap; trading places and covering each others back, with an eerie bro-mantic subtext lying ever so subtly beneath the surface.

Please look for updates on this page for our re-opening.” Unfortunately, the pizzeria’s phone number has since been disconnected and a For Lease sign now hangs outside.

Assessing the Competition: Shake Shack’s New Family Meal? McDonald’s

In what looks like a real life version of that Coke Zero/Pepsi Max commercial , a group of Shake Shack employees seemed to be sampling McDonald’s during family meal today. Is it just one worker’s favorite? Are they doing taste tests, analyzing the packaging?

Fall Tracking: The Feast takes a hard hat…

The Feast takes a hard hat tour of The John Dory Oyster bar, the redo of the closed Chelsea restaurant that is scheduled to open in the Ace Hotel next month : ” Every seat here will be a bar stool , for example; two whole walls will be glass, looking onto the street. Though some of the original Dory’s props will resurface here (not the massive fish tank), wood, tile, and a hundred-year-old marble mosaic tile floor dominate the design.” [The Feast]
