India Restaurants
Osteria dell’Angolo, Westminster

So, we’ve done Zucca, we’ve done Trullo. Each, in their own way, brilliant crowd- (and critic-) pleasing local Italian restaurants that punch well above their weight for their price point and together form almost a statement of intent regarding the direction that Italian cuisine can, and should, take in the capital. But what of anywhere else

Whole Earth Bakery & Kitchen reviewed by Justinelinn on August 5, 2010

Whole Earth Bakery is amazing! I’ve been going here for years and it’s the only place in the city that I can find vegan, wheat-free and sugar-free baked items. Many places offer vegan treats, but all contain wheat or sugar, others are wheat-free but not vegan or sugar-free. This place does it all! For vegans and those with food allergies, Whole Earth Bakery is a godsend.

Mixed Vegetable Kootu

Mixed Vegetable Kootu The kitchen smelt remarkably delicious with warm aromatic flavors while cooking today’s recipe, mixed vegetable kootu. The reason for the wonderful aroma were the roasted spices and lentils – asafoetida, cinnamon, bengal gram and poppy seeds that were ground to a paste with fresh coconut forming the masala base of the kootu. Makes for a memorable side not only with rice but with dosa and chapati too.

Recipe #158: Refried Beans (Vegetarian Version)

This dish is going to be the accompaniment to tonight’s dinner, huevos rancheros, which will be made very shortly. :-D Refried Beans (Vegetarian Version) This recipe is quick & super easy to make! Refried beans, or frijoles refritos , is a dish that goes well with many different Mexican foods: It makes a great side for steak or chicken fajitas , quesadillas , pupusas, empanadas, etc., and of course, huevos racheros

A Quick Lunch at Zo

Quick to say, quick to serve, quick to eat! Normally I don’t venture out to Government Center for lunch as it’s about a mile from my office, but today was a good day to catch up with an old friend who works around there. Due to a massive blister on my heel (ouch!), I hopped the T instead of walking, and it was a quick enough ride to Zo. Gyros, wraps, spanakopita, dolmadakia, baklava – it’s all

Mangal 2, Dalston

One of the great ethnic food styles of London, I’ve never had an ocakbasi (translating as far as I can tell as simply ‘charcoal grill’) that’s been anything less than decent, and they have the potential to be very good indeed. Yet bizarrely, they also seem to be one of the most overlooked cuisines in the capital, certainly next to Chinese or Vietnamese or Indian/Pakistani. At the risk of sounding patronising, I can’t help feeling they often only have themselves to blame – I’ve known many a very impressive ocakbasi grill (characterised by their huge extractor hoods) hiding towards the back of the restaurant, while pride of place in the shop window goes to two columns of sweaty doner meat and a tray of deep-fried chicken.

Visually engaging merchandising, continually on-trend stock and affordable prices have made this monthly vintage sale a welcome fixture on West London’s fashion calendar, with folks flocking from miles away to frock-hunt here. Thanks, Grandpa.

Once again we saw how important team diversity is, as the winning team definitely won by kicking ass in the Round 7 featuring grandpa music. Maybe you should invite your grandpa out more often with your friends, eh? Sure, he’ll drink too much, start telling stories about the greatest generation and getting a little touchy with the ladies, but hey, do you want to take home first place or not

I’m missing the access to Ma Peche and the famous halal cart on 53rd (and all my friends at msft of course), but so far lots of great places to check out down here and mostly at a fraction of the prices of Midtown. Last week, one of my coworkers who happens to be Puerto Rican took us out to Cafe Nunez on 35th St.
