Jared Allen’s Gettin’ Antsy Over Brett Favre

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen visits the Vikings camp and talks with Brad Childress and an antsy Jared Allen, who told him: “I do hope Brett comes back, but in fairness to the team and in fairness to Tarvaris — hey, we’re done with camp now — let’s move things forward. Tarvaris has an opportunity to take this team over … I think you have to have confidence in the quarterback. I think the quarterback has to be the leader of the team, especially the offense and, again, I think stability at the position is key as hell…All I’m saying — and I have a pretty good relationship with Brett — I think this is the last year we want do the flip-flop thing.” Found at ESPN .

Cheeky Monkey Deli’s Meatloaf Sandwich

I stopped by the Cheeky Monkey Deli in Saint Paul on Selby Avenue yesterday and got a meatloaf sandwich to go. The meatloaf sandwich includes meatloaf, of course, as well as cheddar cheese, bacon, spicy mustard, and pickled chilies on toast.

Second Stop Cafe reviewed by beanmail on August 12, 2010

Simple cafe on the same block as Champs Family Bakery! Food: The day I visited they had a veggie sandwich special that was not only great, but totally trumped the looks of my omni friend’s turkey sandwich (obviously). Fresh bread, hummus, and tons of veggies; only disappointed that it didn’t come with a couple of chips or something besides a strawberry. Atmosphere: eclectic decor, but a little too cramped/filled with wifi users for my taste.

Vegetarian Yellow Sparrow

Soo Hwang Chue sounds a little better in Chinese than it does translated into Vegetarian Yellow Sparrow, and like the Lion’s Head Casserole , these don’t really look like birds. Naming issues aside, it’s a fabulous dish. It takes a little prep work and a bit of finesse, so it’s one of those dishes that you want to make for your special vegetarian friend to show them that you went the extra bit for them.

Zigni House, Islington

The evening had hardly got off to an auspicious start. Forced to leave our cosy, dry table at the Mucky Pup (aptly named as it seemed home to every noisy dog in North London) in search of sustenance, we set out on the trail of somewhere called the Sultan Ahmet, reportedly one of the oldest Turkish restaurants in London and purveyors of top charcoal-grilled kebabs

Gluten-free Indian Quinoa Masala Recipe

Ever since I embarked on a special allergen-free diet for Baby Yum, I have been experimenting with some of the more exotic gluten-free “grains” or pseudo grains. Some of these have been a trial (amaranth, anyone?) and others have been a true pleasure to work with (quinoa, sorghum, millet). Quinoa is a grain that I long thought bothered my tummy, but it turns out other grains may have actually been the culprit

We’re Expanding

I’ve been eager to tell you for weeks… I’m pregnant! Maybe you’ve already noticed the decline in posts and I’m sorry.  This morning sickness thing has been killing me–it’s wrongly named because mine lasts all day long. Feeling ill has made it impossible to cook or even think about food. Everything tastes funny and even though I’m always hungry, I never want to eat anything, except fruit

Blockheads (Upper East Side) reviewed by Adah on August 8, 2010

My omnivore neighbors love this place and since they delivery, and I was too lazy to cook, I gave it a try. Blockheads is a better quality Chipotle or Qdobas. They’re menu has a lot of vegetable or bean based vegetarian options and they claim that they can make many vegetarian items vegan; they offer tofu based sour cream and a soy cheese

Prime Time, Ladies

The Lady in RedShe is the one who you would find packing three suitcases for a one week trip. Someone who would packed in lots of shopping of books and clothes, and sneaked in bottles and packs of chilli paste, spices and what-nots from Malaysia and then get slapped with huge amount for overweight baggage back to Jakarta. She would be the one who knows the best of quality, the right and appropriate thing to do at a time and she makes her decision firm and fast

Last Gasp of a Dinosaur

There is an interesting post over at the Bartending Magazine blog about the new complex nature of cocktails. To summarize the post, the author laments the fact that progress is interfering with “classic cocktails”, like the Rum & Coke and Screwdrivers, because these newfangled cocktails require things like egg whites and uncommon liqueurs.

Chase Distillery

Visiting the Chase distillery in Herefrodshire has been on my to-do list for way too long. Sorry about the lack of photos in this post by the way… I forgot my camera… I remember meeting the guys from Chase at Taste of Christmas in December 2008. This was the first time that I had come across the brand, or at least I thought it was
