Pantaloon sales grow by 30% in a year; home retail segment is still a cause of concern

Pantaloon Retail (India), the country’s largest multi-segment, multi-product, and multi-format, listed retailer, part of Kishore Biyani-led Future group, after a disastrous performance in December, 2008, when same-store-sales for all segments (value, life style, and home retail) declined, the performance has begun to show signs of continuous improvement for the value and lifestyle segments. While, value (62 per cent) and lifestyle (23 per cent) segments account for nearly 85 per cent of overall sales, home retail segment contributes the balance of 15 per cent sales for the company.

Beyond Food Porn at Suan Thai in Paris, France

The iPhone does not do these pretty prawns justice (and we may have not been able to resist eating one before photographing…just sayin'). Most of my foodie friends go on and on about food porn.  I sometimes roll my eyes a little.  Maybe it’s because I don’t live in a big city or because I travel so much but, in my experience, there’s a bit of a negative correlation between food presentation and taste. Maybe it’s just a question of resources – if you spend all that time making something look pretty, you probably don’t have much time left to make it taste amazing, too.

Much to my dismay, the price factor won out over my persuasion skills in getting them to dine at any of the city’s culinary powerhouses. After some consideration, we decided our best bet was to head to Anthony Bourdain’s old stomping ground: Brasserie Les Halles.

The Big 80: A Family of Winners

As the Quizmaster of Grand Junction, I have come across some amazing things. It’s amazing to me that there are so many interesting and educated people in this town that don’t come down to Geeks. All be it, many of the smart ones would probably stay home and not get plastered on a Tuesday night, but the thought of intelligent life out there in the valley makes it all the more special when we get a few fresh faces to grace the patio.

Three Wineries and a Fair

The first-ever ‘Wine Fest & Seminar 2009′ in Bangalore was organised by the Karnataka Wine Board in the sylvan settings of the 240-acre Lalbagh Gardens on July 10 – 12, with just three local wine companies taking part, Grover Vineyards, Naka Spurt, and Kinvah. While a far cry from the affairs we have been witness to in Mumbai and Delhi, this was a significant first step for local wine producers and wine marketing companies, and provides an important precedent for such fairs in future.
