It was a dark day indeed for Teochew Muay (Porridge) lovers when Xu Jun Sheng closed its doors 2 years ago. There are very very few Teochew Muay places where you have a selection of ready prepared dishes and are still able to order Ala Carte dishes as well. But the good news is that they are back in business and judging from the crowds during lunchtime on a weekday, I would surmise that most of their regulars have already gotten wind of it.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal , more and more properties are dropping “resort” from their names as a result of the “AIG effect.” The stigma remains for businesses to hold events at seemingly lavish resorts so companies are being very conscious when choosing sites for conferences.

You may know that I have a crush on raw foods. After all, barring a few instances of nama shoyu (fresh wheat soy sauce) raw foods are mostly gluten free and almost always vegetarian (depending on who you ask). That’s why avoiding nuts for Baby Yum may be one of the more difficult restrictions, because some of my favorite raw food dishes at restaurants or at home require them

Many years ago, there was this quaint shop at Dadar TT/Khodadad Circle/Dadar (East) called “Ketkars’ Masalay”. It was located in a small lane behind D.Damodars or Agarwal classes. They used to sell the best goda masala – at least the one which got my grandmother’s approval which is by the way, the most crucial rating

Following yesterday’s announcement at the Madrid Fusion conference, Team El Bulli has issued an official press release that delves a bit deeper into the how and the why of the two year shuttering of the world’s best restaurant. The entire press release is below, but first some important things to note here: The final reservations for the 2011 season will be open in September of this year, during the two year hiatus both the El Bulli restaurant in Cala Montjoi and the “elBullitaller workshop” in Barcelona will remain active by Adria and his crew, and that in the duration, they will be compiling the 30 years of technique and history into—pause, breath—an encyclopedia

We met up with Jon’s friend who took us to the cool Shida and Taida neighbourhood , which is the area surrounding the two Universities in the Da-an district of Taipei. There’s a nice college town/bohemian vibes to the area and it’s flourish with cheap eats, 2nd hand bookstores, cool cafes and live houses for local indie bands.

HUA HIN, Thailand — Efforts to save the wild tiger are at a critical point and it will take greater political will and cooperation from Asian countries to prevent the big cats from becoming extinct, conservationists and the World Bank warned Wednesday. The dire message was offered to 13 tiger range states attending the first Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation. The aim of the three-day meeting is to convince countries to pledge to spend more on tiger conservation and set targets for boosting their numbers – vows that would then be finalized by heads of state in September at a meeting in Vladivostok, Russia

Somehow, in the past couple of years, I developed a love for Vietnamese sandwiches – the Banh Mi at Mi Li Cafe on the North Side are a staple for me whenever I can get up that way. When I saw this recipe, I knew I’d have to try it. Don’t get the wrong idea – this isn’t anything like a traditional banh mi, with it’s pate and two kinds of pork
