Atmosphere is nice–bright, airy and spacious, although the acoustics are strangely bad (it gets very loud in there with not that many people). As far as the food goes, we weren’t thrilled with anything we tried and definitely wouldn’t order those things again (chickpea fries, grilled veg pizza, seitan medallion panini, key lime pie. even the mini-brownie was somehow not right).

Keeping in tune with the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s announcement of reductions in indirect duties of customs and excise in the annual budget, manufacturers of passenger vehicles (like, Ford, Toyota, General Motors, M&M, and Mitsubishi) and LCD flat panels (like, Samsung and LG), have begun to pass on the benefit of cuts in the prices of these products. While the passenger vehicle prices have come down by Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000, LCD prices are witnessing reduction of Rs 1,500 to Rs. 3,500.

GST (Goods & Service Tax)– announced to be implemented from 1st April, 2010– and possible opening of retail to foreign investment (FDI), will ensure multi-fold growth for FMCG sector in the next 10 years. According to a FICCI-Technopak report, the sector is expected to grow 4-fold from Rs1.25 lakh crore ($25 billion) sales in 2008 to Rs 4.5 lakh crore ($95 billion) by 2018. Even without the implementation of FDI and GST, though unlikely, the sector will continue to grow at 10-12 per cent annually.
I was recently contacted on Twitter by an enthusiastic representative of a company called Zeer.com about to release a gluten-free product database, and invited to a complimentary viewing of the site. The company offers “foodies” a variety of means to browse products by interest and gluten-free happens to be one of their most recent product categories. I’m not sure if “foodie” is really the appropriate title for their target market, as most foodies that I know are less excited about packaged, processed food and more interested in the potential of raw ingredients and international cooking techniques.

“It is not a very inspiring budget,” told the Press Trust of India. “The retail sector has been clamouring for some kind of industry status and the issue not being touched upon is a disappointment,” said Bijou Kurien, president and chief executive (lifestyle), Reliance Retail Limited. “Finance minister’s silence on (easing) FDI norms in retail is a dampener. I feel the finance minister should have also done away with service tax on rentals, which is currently at 12.5%,” Thomas Varghese, CEO, Aditya Birla Retail

Pranab Mukherjee, the union Finance Minister, presented the annual central budget for 2009-10 on Monday, the 6th July, 2009. The budget had assumed lot of importance as it was the first budget of UPA-II, after its decisive win in the recent elections. People were not only expecting big ticket economic reform announcements, but were also looking for a policy road map of the government for the next five years.

Hey, I’m glad I found such a knowledgeable, alive forum! I’m so excited to be travelling to India at the end of the year – however I’ve realised that I know little about the place! As a uni student i’ve got 3 months off at the end of the year, so I’m planning an 8 week adventure in India with my Boyfriend (both 21) (maybe head into China too?). Last year I visited south East Asia for 6 weeks (highly recommend!). I plan to leave around the 29th November and return around the 1st of Feb

This will be my first time in India and frankly the only thing that makes me nervous is dealing with the heat -ad to that- living out of a backpack (for the first time). I will be flying into Delhi airport and staying a few days then wandering about the country (in "wing it" mode)- -mostly north Dharamsala is my #1 destination but I could wind up anywhere -depending on who I meet what looks interesting etc…

The proliferation of Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants along Telegraph Avenue is one of North Oakland’s less celebrated features. Yet, once you’ve tried it, who can turn down a soft, spongy handful of slightly sour Ingera (flat, … Café Colucci , while famous for its mouth-watering vegetarian combo, provided the most streamlined (i.e., yuppified) Ethiopian dining experience of the three.

Hi guys, We’re planning on making a trip in January first week for our Honeymoon to HP. The budget is not really an issue, but here are the conditions (imposed on me by my fiance!): – Should have snow. – Should not have too much snow that we’re unable to move around (I guess Manali is a no-no) – Shouldn’t be too crowded – Need to travel the least by road to avoid road sickness – Hotels should have a good view (good/luxury hotels maybe?) I was thinking of going to Shimla and nearby places (chail, tattapani, kufri etc), but am concerned if they’ll be too crowded in Jan.

Last year I travelled through the Kinnaur and Spiti Valleys, did a short 4 day trek, and on the bus back from Kaza to Manali was struck by the incredible beauty of the Chandra Valley, between Battal and Gramphu. I can’t find any information on trekking in this area (other than higher treks like Hampta Pass), and I don’t recall seeing any sign of villages along the road – just the occasional wandering goatherd.

So, here I am now: Planning my first trip through India traveling as a solo women. At the beginning, I was pretty confident about it, telling myself, I’ve done solo backpacking before (though only in Australia), and I traveled in Uganda and South Africa (though not alone), so I felt good about India. Just to be well prepared, I also read probably every thread on this (wonderful) IM page about safety advices for solo woman traveling in India and even felt better after knowing the "do’s and don’ts"…..!
However, my good feeling dissappeared, when all the Indian women (and actually also some men), who I work with in Mumbai, freaked out about me traveling ALONE in North India (Leh/Ladakh)
