[ Femia ] The owners of Five Leaves have officially signed on to the triangle bar space one block away at 1 Bedford Ave., formerly occupied by Polonia and, briefly, “Greenpoint Square.” They’ve partnered with the owner of the building to run a new restaurant in the space and are planning some heavy renovations in the coming months.

Late in the afternoon on Friday, while most New Yorkers were long gone for Labor Day weekend, Diner’s Journal reported that Amanda Freitag is leaving Tribeca restaurant The Harrison and owner Jimmy Bradley is taking over in the kitchen as he re-negotiates the lease for the space. Presumably, he will succeed in his negotiations, but it’s unclear if the restaurant will live on with the same concept should he re-sign.

Kooper’s just has to convince enough people to stuff the ballot box. “We have until September 10th, 2010 to collect a maximum of votes to win a chance to represent Baltimore and Maryland in the Season 2 of the Amazing Food Truck Race!” reads the e-mail sent from Kooper’s.

In this week’s Shallow Thought Wednesdays post, John Lindner describes an encounter with Fat Eric’s, a fine-dining take-out/delivery operation in the basement of a church on Fort Avenue. The operation strikes me as an interesting way to get in on the food industry without the huge start-up costs and serving staff needed for a sit-down restaurant. In that sense, the place has something in common with all those food trucks out there
