The restaurant section is still on the way, but the bars—and there are three— hosted locals brave enough to cross the plywood shed last night.

Helmer Toro, the owner of the group of famed New York bagel shops H&H Bagels was indicted for tax fraud, grand larceny, falsifying records, and violating labor law back in November. And yesterday the court handed down his sentence: 50 weekends in jail and a $500,000 fine to pay back what he stole over the last six years. Actually, it looks like they went easy on him.

Earlier today, EV Grieve brought the news that a new eco-friendly Italian restaurant is vying for the old Graceland deli space on the corner of East 2nd Street and A. He now learns that restaurant comes to us from Frank Prisinzano, the owner of Frank, Lil’ Frankies, and Supper, which sits just a block away. Prisinzano had a run in with Community Board 3 last July when they wouldn’t give him a pass on his lapsed liquor license for Supper due to community complaints.
