Along with news of Bonita’s closure, Brooklyn Based brings word that another member of the Marlow & Sons /Diner fiefdom also has some departure plans: Caroline Fidanza, the founding chef of Marlow & Sons and Diner, is collaborating with pastry chef Elizabeth Schula and Rebecca Collerton, a line cook at Egg , to open Saltie’s. The original photo of this (apparent) marmot, as identified by WSB’ers after the sighting was shared June 19th by Jennifer from a neighborhood near The Junction, was so memorable that somebody even turned it into a LOLcritter ( as noted recently in the WSB Forums ). She e-mailed again this morning with this new photo and words of thanks: It was fun reading all the comments and learning what he is. Here he is again–taken this morning in about the same spot

Love it or hate it, restaurant PR has been a necessary evil in the industry for decades. And while most attention during this down economy has gone to the restaurateurs forced to close their establishments and cut back on staff, what about the poor flacks on the front lines schmoozing with writers, pitching round ups, meting out access to their celeb clients, and charging $3k/month for the service? What about them

As reported last night , almost as soon as the homeless encampment that calls itself “Nickelsville” started setting up at Terminal 107 Park (along the Duwamish – here’s a map ), Port of Seattle reps showed up to tell them to leave. WSB photojournalist Christopher Boffoli just went down to check what’s happened since, and they’ve cleared out – he says nothing’s left but a dumpster and porta-potties that he’s told will be removed soon

Chef Rob Weland has helmed the kitchen at Poste Moderne Brasserie since May 2004 and in that time established the restaurant’s reputation for sustainable, organic and local cuisine. (Be sure to check out the expansive patio garden on your next visit.) Prior to landing in DC, Weland was executive chef at Guastavino’s in New York. Small world connection: Weland cooked under Philippe Reininger, executive chef at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s new J&G Steakhouse , in Philly at the Ritz-Carlton in 1991.

The survey was compiled by nonprofit trend-tracking group Global Language Monitor, and is based on how many times the name of the city has popped up in the media, on the Internet and in the blogsphere.
