Week in Reviews: Church & State Now A Two-Star Scene; Chilly Soup at Yu Chun Chic Naeng Myun

1) Church & State: Now that Walter Manzke has departed the kitchen at Church & State , SIV pops back in to try the offerings of newish chef Joshua Smith. For the most part she’s a fan, although the restaurant does lose a full star in translation, dropping down from three big ones to a two star takedown: ” many of the dishes weren’t as good, especially the charcuterie, which now tasted bland and boring…After giving the new chef some time to settle in, I went back several times and each visit as Smith introduced more and more of his own dishes, the food got better and better …Smith’s got a tough act to follow. He’s not Manzke, and some of Manzke’s fans are never going to get over it

Brick Oven Pizza Best Lunch in Santa Claus, Indiana

A sight for hungry tourists Today’s blog post is brought to you courtesy of my husband and our best friends. He had forgotten that if you get started at 8 and still have to put gas in the car and buy discount tickets at Kroger, it’s nearly lunch before you get to the amusement park gates.

With a look book that’s generally considered to be the last word in British bridal elegance, Amanda Wakeley (OBE, if you don’t mind) is renowned for her fashion finesse (not to mention after-dark attire, if Beyoncé’s recent Vegas clubwear and Florence & the Machine ’s choice of performance get-up, below right , are anything to go by).

For weeks we’d heard rumblings that Danny Meyer and Co. had been eyeing spaces in old the Embassy Suites complex (now known as the The Conrad) down in Battery Park City, with the possibility of maybe a Shake Shack and maybe a new location of Blue Smoke in the works. Now, Broad Sheet Daily brings word via its newsletter that at last night’s Community Board 1 meeting, Meyer himself was in attendance to confirm that he is in fact opening three restaurants in the complex, which include, yes, a Shake Shack, and yes, a Blue Smoke, but also another totally new fine dining concept which he says will be in the vein of the Union Square Cafe
