Cafe Nunez – Spanish and Caribbean Bar, Restaurant Club Garment District NY 240 W 35th St (between 7th Ave & 8th Ave) Manhattan, NY 10001 (212) 564-7444 cafenunez.com/ Just started a new job recently down in the garment district. I’m missing the access to Ma Peche and the famous halal cart on 53rd (and all my friends at msft of course), but so far lots of great places to check out down here and mostly at a fraction of the prices of Midtown. A Zap2It writer, while attending NBC’s fall press tour, was able to sample some food from Top Chef Just Desserts contestants, and apparently it ranges from the slightly precious (lavender pavlovas with lychee, raspberry & rose petals) to the glittery ( lemon meringue tart with “disco blueberries” ).

It’s an annual treat that most foodies covet, but still, every fig season has me more excited that the last. When I spotted a stack of plump, fresh figs at the grocery store with no one around, I wanted a bullhorn to shout: “People! The figs are here!” After containing myself, I picked up a plastic carton of the tender morsels, inspected all sides to ensure none were damaged, then lowered the container into my shopping basket, peering at it lovingly as if it were a newborn child
