Restaurant Le Pavillon du Lac dans le parc des Buttes Chaumont

Nous vous avons montré  les Buttes Chaumont il y a quelques mois, disant en passant que ce nouveau restaurant était sur le point d’ouvrir. Quelques mois plus tard, avec l’été qui bat son plein, nous n’avons pas pu résister repasser par là pour voir si la magie du lieu s’étend jusque dans les plats… photos : JasonW Le pouvoir d’attraction du parc des Buttes Chaumont est si fort  que l’on peut y retourner sans se lasser. Peut-être est ce à cause des ruisseaux, ou les coins ombragés parfaits pour une sieste, ou les vues incroyables sur la ville, ou le pont suspendu, ou la cascade… vous voyez ce que je veux dire ?

Dans un quartier qui manque de pôles culturels, ce bâtiment historique tombait en ruines. La Mairie de Paris l’a sauvé et les travaux viennent de commencer… Fermé depuis plus de 20 ans, ce beau bâtiment a frôlé la mort plus d’une fois.

Today there are many opportunities to eat outdoors, but for much of our history it was fairly uncommon. Partly explained by dust and dirt from unpaved roads, even in the 20th century when this had been overcome there were still few outdoor restaurants, particularly with the spread of air-conditioning after World War II. Though impossible to quantify, it’s possible that dining in open air was more in vogue in the late 18th century than in 1960.

The Glazart beach – music and DJs from 18th June – 27th September 2010

Before the Paris Plage festival get going (20th July – 20th August) – or even during – why not try out this different type of urban beach, with its music festival and great acts like Roy Ayers ou George Clinton. That’s Amore – The Hague, Netherlands

If you go to the Netherlands , at some point, you must get on a bike.  You’ve never experienced such a bike-friendly place as the so-called low country.  And by hopping astride that two-wheeler, you’ll manage to get to spots the regular tourist will never see.  Gorgeous, amazing, genuine little places that you’ll still be talking about years later. But a bike trip requires sustenance.  Especially if you are really going to explore.  It behooves you to make some plans on how you might get it.  One approach is to just find food wherever you end up.  And certainly, there’s no shortage of fine cafes and little restaurants in the Netherlands that serve good food.  You just may worry about someone making off with your rental. But to avoid this, why not bring a hamper of your own goodies?
