Ristorante Poggio agli Ulivi – Mugello, Italy

Densely Populated Florence Italy Visiting friends who live just outside of Florence taught me that the area has a thriving agritourism industry that would be perfect for a return visit with my family. Similar to bed and breakfasts, what you find are converted rustic farm houses that have rooms or small apartments with complete kitchens and often pools.  This style can be a nice and casual alternative to staying at the Westin Excelsior Florence for example

Award-Winning Ahwahnee in Yosemite Delivers Best Lunch

Best Monte Cristo sandwich in the country Decades ago, I walked into the restaurant at The Ahwahnee in Yosemite National Park with my parents and didn’t have time to get comfortable before they were saying, “Kids, put the menus down. We’re leaving.” It was just too pricey for a family of four living on a civil servant’s salary.

The changing wine scene in Sydney lures wine lovers

Sydney has certainly changed, even in the 12 months since I last visited. What is really exciting is that there is a host of wine bar-like venues that are quickly making this beautiful city an exciting venue for wine-lovers, a mantle previously (and in some cases still) held by Melbourne, reports peripatetic SI correspondent, Harshal Shah from Australia.

Return to Rosamunde Sausage Grill – San Francisco, CA

Smoked Chicken Sausage with Cherries It’s been more than a year since my last visit.  It’s been eighteen long months since I ate at this heavenly sausage grill but I’m here to report that the sausages remain as delicious as my memory. Rosamunde Sausage Grill in San Francisco today has two locations, besides the original they are now in the Mission District.  I returned to the Lower Haight location with my niece, to introduce her to this savory institution. We walked here from my house and back again, as a bargaining chip for eating one and a half sausages each

The 2010 Montmartre Grape Harvest Festival from 6th – 10th October 2010

Unmissable fun for some, hellish stupidity for others… try going down (or rather ‘up’) to Montmartre to rub shoulders with the 500,000 other people in attendance and form your own opinion… photo by titou.net used under cc licence It’s the 77th edition of one of the most popular post-summer events. This year it going to be ‘funny’ too, with comedy shows and a famous sponsor in the form of Gérard Jugnot (a star in France, probably unheard of where you come from). Expect theatre, concerts, cooking lessons, themed walks, the giant parade… photo by titou.net used under cc licence photo by parispassion used under cc licence …the ‘marriage non-requests’ (still don’t know what that means) and the firework show to finish the whole thing off! photo by parispassion used under cc licence With all the madness going on, let’s not forget that the sale of Montmartre wine helps benefit the associations of the area, aiding them to aid others.

Asiate – A floor to ceiling view. And a wall of wine in NY

A frisson of pleasure ran through me as we stepped into the Asiate restaurant on the 35th floor of the New York Mandarin Oriental hotel with its sweeping views from 16-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.

Vuvuzelas now sound for wine in South Africa

The aftermath of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ has seen definite benefits to the wine industry in South Africa. As Su Birch, CEO, Wines of South Africa (WOSA), noted, “For the most part there has been a marked increase in sales volumes amongst those countries with a high level of interest in soccer.”

Tartine Bakery – San Francisco, CA

Killer Croque Monsieur @ Tartine in San Francisco This is a bakery with a following. For years now a steady stream has been here for the freshest breakfast goodies when their doors open at 7:00 AM and then again at 5:00 PM when the ovens have completed their task of making loaves of legendary all organic bread.

Wine from the south of France launched in India

A recent wine tasting at The Leela Kempinski in Gurgaon, arranged by Gianander Dua, Director De Vine and Hops Marketing, saw the launch of a range of red and white wines from Château St. Jacques d’Albas and Ferrandière Estate in the south of France. Not having been to The Leela for a wine tasting before this event, I was impressed by the wine service and quality of glasses

We (re)visit Hôtel de Ville

Being in the hotel trade has its benefits, like being invited to a private visit of Hôtel de Ville, for example! Although we had been just last September for Open House, our visit last week – organised by the Paris tourist office – was much calmer, with all the time we needed to take photos that would have been impossible with all the crowds… photos : JasonW This may be our fourth visit to Hôtel de Ville, and it just never gets tiresome. There’s always something spectacular to see again, and having the place to ourselves this time was a rare pleasure, with a guide to give us all the historical details and enough space to take some lovely photos. If you have read our article from September 2009 , you’ll probably have noticed that all the photos were taken over the heads of people

Brick Oven Pizza Best Lunch in Santa Claus, Indiana

A sight for hungry tourists Today’s blog post is brought to you courtesy of my husband and our best friends. After waiting 38 years (that’s his estimate, not mine) to visit Holiday World & Splashing Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana, my other half finally said, “Tuesday is the day,” submitted a vacation day request, grabbed two teens, and drove the three hours down there. He had forgotten that if you get started at 8 and still have to put gas in the car and buy discount tickets at Kroger, it’s nearly lunch before you get to the amusement park gates.
