After mentioning arrabbiata sauce in a previous post , I was then inspired to create a recipe for it.
Arrabbiata sauce is traditionally served over penne, although other types of pasta — like spaghetti, capellini, linguine, or shells, etc

1) Saddle Peak Lodge: This week SIV checks out Saddle Peak Lodge—a place she’s been frequenting roughly twice a year since the late-90s, seemingly every time with a different chef. New addition to the SPL team is Adam Horton, who has been at the restaurant for just over a year.

Leave it to one of the world’s best “family-friendly” hotels to track down the top nannies in Britain to come take care of young guests at the hotel. After a nation-wide search, three “real-life Mary Poppins-like ladies” were chosen by the Athenaeum Hotel’s selective interview panel consisting of Serena Zandegu, the hotel’s Kids Concierge; six-year-old Alexander Clement-Davies; 10-year old Honor Robson; and actress Lynda Bellingham, star of Calendar Girls and All Creatures Great and Small.

W hen the sweet-faced teenager navigating a shopping cart in the narrow aisle asked her to “excuse me, Aunty”, she turned and stared. “I’m not your aunty,” she told him severely, and as he watched the boy’s face fall, Amar turned away and smiled to himself, but not without some exasperation

Vinoteca What do you say about a restaurant in which the food is incredible, the service exceptional and the wine selection exciting but from where you want to escape because of the noise of customers having such a good time is just too much? As with many places serving food today (I purposely choose to avoid definitions such as restaurant, gastro-pub, trattoria etc as this applies to all), you get the feeling they never thought of soundproofing the location when decorating and as so often happens today, noise is confused with atmosphere. I might come across as “difficult” but I really would have loved the sound of laughter, people talking over each other to be heard to have been broken by something, anything

A reader recently asked me if I received her recent email, which was sent via the email form on this blog. It was then that I realized that none of these email links were working on any of my blogs ( Cooking with Corey , See Corey Run , Rock It! Running Company , Underage Knitter , etc.)

Here at Smith HQ, when we’re not living, breathing and loving boutique hotels, we’re drooling over delectable dinners in London , long lunches in Languedoc , superior coffee in the capital and wine-tasting events – even wedding cakes made of cheese . (We take our ‘tastemaker’ title quite seriously, you see.) Typing is mainly practised one-handed, to enable a non-stop snack stream to pass unhindered into our greedy (but still oh-so-selective) bellies. In short, we’ve decided to put more foodie posts on the blog menu, and resurrect our series of interviews with the food world’s Michelin-starred great and good (see our previous interviews with the awesome Alain Ducasse and mighty Michael Caines ).

I was catching up on some podcasts and just finished listening to a Fresh Air program from May that I thought was fascinating. Terry Gross interviews author Daniel Okrent about his book Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition . It’s a great interview, so I wanted to share.

I’m sure there are restaurants that have a straightforward, charitable reason for putting out 50% off deals on Toptable. I’m sure there are plenty of sadly overlooked but nevertheless lovely restaurants, serving fabulous food, which find themselves in a position to lay on a very generous discount, keeping regular clientele happy and drumming up a bit of extra interest from those on a slightly tighter budget

Walluc Bistro is an unassuming little place sitting on a not so attractive corner off of Shoreditch High Street with a front room barely big enough to accomodate its central rustic wooden dining table. A kitsch mix of alpine ski memorabilia, boxing gloves, random french vintage posters and mismatched furniture seemingly haemmorraged from a Tyrolean car boot sale make this one of the more random fondue places I’ve been to, but perhaps the most charming. I came on my birthday to indulge my love for all things fromage and was not disappointed, except perhaps at the portion sizes.

Simple cafe on the same block as Champs Family Bakery! Food: The day I visited they had a veggie sandwich special that was not only great, but totally trumped the looks of my omni friend’s turkey sandwich (obviously). Fresh bread, hummus, and tons of veggies; only disappointed that it didn’t come with a couple of chips or something besides a strawberry. Atmosphere: eclectic decor, but a little too cramped/filled with wifi users for my taste.

There is an interesting post over at the Bartending Magazine blog about the new complex nature of cocktails. To summarize the post, the author laments the fact that progress is interfering with “classic cocktails”, like the Rum & Coke and Screwdrivers, because these newfangled cocktails require things like egg whites and uncommon liqueurs.

Visiting the Chase distillery in Herefrodshire has been on my to-do list for way too long. Sorry about the lack of photos in this post by the way… I forgot my camera… I remember meeting the guys from Chase at Taste of Christmas in December 2008. This was the first time that I had come across the brand, or at least I thought it was

Refried Beans (Vegetarian Version) This recipe is quick & super easy to make! Refried beans, or frijoles refritos , is a dish that goes well with many different Mexican foods: It makes a great side for steak or chicken fajitas , quesadillas , pupusas, empanadas, etc., and of course, huevos racheros

Once again we saw how important team diversity is, as the winning team definitely won by kicking ass in the Round 7 featuring grandpa music. Maybe you should invite your grandpa out more often with your friends, eh? Sure, he’ll drink too much, start telling stories about the greatest generation and getting a little touchy with the ladies, but hey, do you want to take home first place or not
