A man in India claims to have gone 70 years without eating or drinking a single thing. The Indian government is conducting tests on the 82-year-old-man to see if he really is existing without any sustenance, hoping to use their findings to train soldiers on how to go without food and water in an emergency. Fine wine finds Lucknow – a city of wine lovers

We, in the wine industry as part of our daily rituals in prayer and salutation to the gods of excise and customs, say a word of thanks to the slowly developing core of wine drinkers who, along with our tireless attitudes and optimistic energies, help propel this industry forward to the dizzy heights we know it can achieve. Cleve Washington , both surprised and gratified, reports on the launch of the FWM Club in Lucknow.

The Canton Arms, Stockwell

One of my favourite places to eat within walking distance of my office – in fact, come to think of it, the only decent place to eat within walking distance of my office, is 32 Great Queen Street. It’s a lovely, buzzy place with charming staff and tasty, uncomplicated food and I’ve never had a bad meal there.

An Evening with Steven Spurrier in Chennai

Talk about shattering preconceptions about wine. “Steven Spurrier’s take on the current wine scenario is that the French are drinking less wine, the Chinese can’t get enough and that India is the next big market,” writes Parvathi Nayar . The setting was the wine dinner held at the Sheraton Park, Chennai.

The International Food & Drink Expo India 2010

The International Food & Drink Expo India 2010 received good news earlier this month with two key international trade associations confirming their support. The Fat Duck, Bray

What must it be like, I wonder, being told you’re the best in the world? Or rather, what must it be like to believe it? It has to be a somewhat surreal experience for the staff at the Fat Duck, as they polish the cutlery and vacuum the carpets and shake down the tablecloths, to be aware essentially that this is it

Big Easy Soda

Two days in New Orleans is insufficient, however anytime in New Orleans is better than none at all. This was the case with my presentation at the Museum of the American Cocktail. What made up for the short time was the stir* of bartenders from some of the finest New Orleans bars that showed up to help prep the session and others that showed up to take it in.

8 Quotes About Artichokes

“Life is like eating artichokes, you have got to go through so much to get so little.” – Thomas Aloysius Dorgan “His memoir is a splendid artichoke of anecdotes, in which not merely the heart and leaves but the thistles as well are edible.” – John Leonard “Remind me to tell you about the time I looked into the heart of an artichoke.” – Bette Davis in All About Eve “These things are just plain annoying. After all the trouble you go to, you get about as much actual “food” out of eating an artichoke as you would from licking 30 or 40 postage stamps. Have the shrimp cocktail instead.” – Miss Piggy “A woman is like an artichoke, you must work hard to get to her heart.” – Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther (2006) “I have a heart like an artichoke – a leaf for everyone.” – from the 1947 film Nightmare Alley “At least you’ll never be a vegetable – even artichokes have hearts.” – Amélie Poulain in the film Amélie “Eating an artichoke is like getting to know someone really well.” – Willi Hastings Related Content Low Fat Artichoke Dipping Sauce 16 Facts About Artichokes Castroville Artichoke Festival

Chill at Uncle Chilli’s

If you’re looking for a place to chill with good booze and music, yet still have a hearty meal, Uncle Chilli’s is the place for you. I came here once when we had the previous food review Toh Yuen, which has to-die-for Chinese food and if you have not read about that yet you must here, and that time I had a had a great time, performances were great and drinks kept on coming! But it had never occur to me that one can have a complete meal right at this place itself while still enjoying the drinks,…

Next Steps…

If you’re wondering why it’s been quiet around here, this post should go some way to explaining it. For all those people who wonder how I find the time to hold down a job that requires constant travel around the UK and abroad, produce a popular TV podcast, participate in a beer flavour panel, ‘experiment’ in my garage, compete in coffee competitions and blog about it all, now you’ve got something else to wonder about! – I’ve started a business too! Something had to give however, and it was the blog. So apologies for the lack of posting in recent months, but you’ll hopefully be pleased to hear that I found the situation so unacceptable that I had no other option to quit my job at Diageo.
