I hadn’t planned on doing a post today. I just returned from a gruesome business weekend. However, I did want to remind everyone that today is Irish Coffee Day, (the link is below) and, I wanted to offer a bit of information about Chess Pie.When I was preparing to do my post for National Pie Day, one of the pies I considered baking was called Hawksbill Chess Pie as found in the book Smokehouse

Korean food – tteokbokki, odeng, jajangmyeon & sundae

Some traditional Korean food which I had since arriving in Seoul… Tteokbokki and Odeng @ Namdaemun Market Popular snack food; had these at a street stall in Namdaemun market. Tteokbokki are sliced rice cakes broiled in sweet-spicy sauce; while Odeng are boiled fish cakes which probably originated from Japan. Why Korea?

Will leave for Seoul later tonight, the beginning of a 90-days trip in Korea. “Why Korea?” A lot of friends have asked in the past few weeks, which I simply replied “Because I like it…” It’s not quite the fact though. The irony is that Korea was not my first choice; and none of 60+ must-visit-before-I-died-places is located in Korea

First as guest stars for Jonas Brothers , then on national TV , and now on prime time; he is doing everything right to promote the girls.

No! Not Gourmet!

http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/05/conde-nast-to-close-gourmet-magazine/?hp I am shocked! I get that ad revenue is down, I get that they need to cut costs, but to close down Gourmet! Get rid of Lucky, get rid of one of your golf titles, cut Architectural Digest down to six months a year, but please don’t get rid of Gourmet! I have to be completely honest–when Ruth Reichl took over, like so many others, I declared the magazine to be ruined, and let my subscription lapse. I felt a little like I did in high school. You know, you’re friends with someone early on, then they join some club or team and you feel like their new friends change them.

A Glimpse

I’m dipping in here to assure that I haven’t been run over by a cement mixer, or fallen off a ferry or any such thing. I’ve been somewhat lacking in imagination and motivation lately. I notice this across the food blogging nets–oh sure, some people are devoted and regular publishers ( Cate , for instance, and also Deb –and if a woman who gave birth and could post about it two days later can post, what kind of a worm am I??), but a great many of the blogs I read on an ongoing basis are showing a sort of end-of-season lagging.

Tonight, ‘Nightline’ Hops on the Butchers-as-Rock-Stars Bandwagon

marvin L/flickr Nightline is airing a piece tonight titled (on its website) “Butchers: New Rock Stars of the Culinary World.” With any luck, this will mark the swan song of this particular trend piece, which has already been covered in New York , the Times , and just about every other publication but Creative Knitting . The Nightline story rounds up some familiar faces, including Pat LaFrieda, Ryan Skeen, Frank Ottomanelli, and Josh Ozersky; though its relative merits may be open to debate, it’s tempting to say that it seems a bit like carving a dead horse.

Losing Money, The Times Hits the Bottle

The New York Times Company announced yesterday that it’s starting a wine club. An un-bylined article in the Times’ business section today reports that the new business, called (suprise) the New York Times Wine Club, is one of several ventures the company has been exploring as its advertising sales have dried up. The club will be run independently of the paper’s food and wine sections, and will deliver wine priced at two levels in six-bottle shipments to members every one to three months

Lee Eun-mi – I Have A Lover music video

Music video of I Have A Lover (애인있어요) by Lee Eun-mi from her Ma Non Tanto album in 2005. Still highly popular these days; it’s the most sung song in Korean karaoke for the first half of 2009… Lee Eun-mi did extremely well with the song, and the lyrics were cleverly written… the song can express unrequited love, a show of affection, or to mourn a broken relationship depending on the audiences/singers’ mood. It’s beautiful regardless for those who can’t understand the language.
