Fans say no to Korean idols’ lotion rub

A Korean theme park has decided to amend its commercial MV due to unfavoured public responses. The original music video for Caribbean Bay water park, which featured pop groups SNSD and 2PM, has received mixed reviews since its recent release. Apparently some fans were not too happy that their idols are getting too intimate with each other, e.g.

Wenlock & Mandeville, London 2012 mascots

Meet Wenlock and Mandeville, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic mascots. The characters “were created from the last two drops of British steel used for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.” I prefer old school animal-like mascots, but conventional or not, the London 2012 mascots are downright ugly.

Celebrating Edna Lewis

Edna Lewis, the “Queen of Southern Cooking,” was born in Freetown, Virginia on April 13, 1916. There’s a wonderful tribute to Edna Lewis by Damon Lee Fowler in the Fall, 2007 issue of Repast a publication of the Culinary Historians Society of Ann Arbor Michigan. (it’s a PDF file but well worth the wait:)Try as I may, I could never pay homage to Edna Lewis appropriately.

April Food Celebrations: 11th-17th

I happened upon quite an embarrassing dilemma when tallying the winner of the April Fool’s Day Game. Quite frankly, I’ve decided give-aways are not my forte. It seems, I should have stressed the fact that since the Sauces book is so hefty, the game was opened to US residents only

An Old Fool and The First Week of April

Can you pick the ganache filled sandwich cookie on the cover of this September 1989 issue of Chocolatier Magazine? No, it’s not a trick. And to prove it, who ever gets the right answer, wins a prize!!! There is a slight hitch though.

Quick!

When you have children–any children, not necessarily a particular number of children–it can be very challenging to execute a reicpe. It goes something like this: Me: “Let’s see…a quarter of a cup of flour…” Child 1: “Mama, can I have a cereal bar?” Me: “Wait, a cup of flour…and two teaspoons of baking powder…” Child 2: “Mommy, where’s my DS?” Me: “No, two of soda, only one of powder…” Child 3: “Mama, can I have some juice?” Me : “And three quarters of a cup of…” Child 4: “Mama, is it my turn to choose [what gets watched on TV]?” Me: “Three quarters…” Child 1: “Mommy, no! It’s my turn!” Me: “Three…” Child 3: “Mama, are we going to the pool?” Me: “Where’s the white wine??” And that was at 10 a.m

Here, There, and Everywhere

Have you ever noticed that when you become aware of a thing, you suddenly see it everywhere? This happens to me a lot with magazine text. I’ll be minding my own business, and all of a sudden it will occur to me that I’ve seen a particular word or phrase recently, and here it is again, and suddenly here it is everywhere .

Korean crossdresser’s Fuwa Fuwa Time

Video of a Korean crossdresser playing bass to Fuwa Fuwa Time , an OST from Japanese anime K-On! It’s so weird that it’s actually funny… According to his Youtube profile … he’s a South Korean bassist whose name is Hyunmo Kim who “hopes to be the world’s greatest stupid idiot bass player.” Good luck Mr Kim, thanks for the lulz. Random Seoul stories (D63)

63rd day in Korea. I’ve met countless people from all walks of life from different parts of the globe, coming and leaving at my residing hostel on regular basis. There’s always a slight sense of loneliness after bidding farewell to those whom I’ve had good chats with, knowing the fact that it’s probably the last time I’ll be seeing their faces despite all the keep-in-touch promises.
