Pig’s ears are the hot topic today as Jonathan Gold’s tackles downtown new(ish)comer Church & State , declaring chef Walter Manzke’s pig’s ears the best he has ever tried. But the restaurant didn’t start off with high accolades. Headed by the original chef “the food was predictably less accomplished than the vibe,” but since Manzke took over the kitchen, the “artists’ brasserie” has become an establishment that, for one, SIV gave a three-star review in March

Wagyu Beef and Shrimp Tempura roll with melted Gruyre and garlic sauce $30 If you are a fan of the Iron Chef series, then the mention of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto might conjure up images of fantastic Japanese creations which his critics would say is not Japanese at all. This is the paradox. Chef Morimoto , the man responsible for the highly acclaimed Nobu Restaurant in New York who plays the role of Iron Chef Japan is supposed to represent Japanese cuisine but he always comes up with creations so bizarre that some might question its “Japaneseness”

From the people behind Luna Park comes a new sports bar venture in Studio City called Henry’s Hat . Scheduled to open on Thursday in the old Minibar space across from Universal CityWalk, HH will feature American “farm-fresh” (in some cases) fare plus a mix of craft and non-craft beers and the requisite cocktail assortment. As for the space, expect a somewhat antiquated look with a mahogany bar (over right), exposed brick walls and vintage sofas, plus the modern update: 15 40-50in flatscreens plus one big boy, a 5ft x 5ft projection-screen.

by Guest Market Bloggers Matt & Lindsay It was bright and early on the first day of summer when we decided to visit the Downsview Farmers Market to quench our desire for fresh Ontario fruits and veggies. We made sure we had our camera, cash to avoid those nasty ABM service charges, and our reusable bags to carry all the glorious bounty we were about to acquire. As we pulled up on the large building our expectations were high for some local organic goodies.

Earlier this week, Eater LA posted the contents of an email tip purporting to detail behind-the-scenes doings at the restaurant The Must . We ran this tip without contacting the owners of the restaurant, who have since refuted the tip in its entirety. We apologize to the owners of the restaurant, and our readers, for not investigating our source’s claims before airing them on the site.

According to Jonathan Gold, the “it” dish of the moment is pescado Zarandeado aka snook fish, and is apparently quite hard to find in the US. In LA the fish is brought in weekly from Mexico at Mariscos La Chente on the Westside, where they serve it “butterflied, lathered with oil, garlic and spices, fixed into a kind of wire basket, and placed over a hot fire.” Once cooked, the fish is served alongside “hot tortillas, limes and an umami-rich marmalade of onions,” resulting in what Gold describes as a ” bone-intensive but sublime” meal. Other greatest hits include the “wonderful” cocktails of shrimp and fresh octopus, and the “shrimp cucaracha, fried with appendages and head intact.” [LAW]

Whether you’ll be at the cottage, watching waterfront fireworks or just barbecuing in the backyard, it’s time to hit the LCBO to stock up for tomorrow’s Canada Day celebrations. To help you out with your shopping list, we decided to whip together a list of: 6 Great Canada Day Drinks: Bloody Caesar – a truly Canadian drink. Invented in Calgary in 1969 (!) by Walter Chell , and then perpetuated in 2002 by Mott’s designing pre-mixed Clamato juice just for this purpose.

Mdm Leong, 80 , founder, owner and operator of Nam Seng Usually I would put the photo of a dish as my first picture, but as I started to write this post, I began to feel that this story is more about Madam Leong rather than the Wanton Mee which she has been dishing out since 1959. At 80 years of age, I think she is the oldest working hawker that I have met
