BEVERLY HILLS —SIV drops by very recently opened Culina inside the Four Seasons Beverly Hills hotel and shares her two cents: “You’d never recognize the old place now…The atmosphere is almost dizzy as hotel guests and excited locals troop in to inspect the changes…Executive chef Victor Casanova has installed a crudo bar right next to the actual bar, where the giddy blond and stiletto-wearing crowd can watch a winsome young chef prepare raw seafood specialties… hold the salt, though. Our portion was overdosed …The main menu has appealing flourishes…

Sportello Restaurant and Drink Cocktail Bar Fort Point Boston 348 Congress St Fort Point Boston 617 737 1234 I met up with my cousin Alan after work this week in Boston and we checked out the Sportello Restaurant and the Drink Cocktail bar in the supposedly trendy Fort Point neighborhood of South Boston. Upstairs at Sportello, a zig zagging countertop (no tables) and an open kitchen makes for a unique casual dining experience that’s probably not much different from hanging out at your gourmet chef friend’s kitchen and eating at the counter. From the vantage of the countertop you can see (and smell) your dish being prepared right before your eyes.

Yes it’s Pi Day again. A great day to celebrate for both mathies and foodies alike. (Luckily, I’m both so I get an extra big helping!) I’m hoping to indulge in a pie with every meal today. Of course, I’ll stretch my definition a little so I’m not just eating big slices of yumminess, lard and sugar for each meal. (Though that sounds pretty tasty too!) I’m going to be flexible and include things like turnovers, tarts, pizza pie, empanada… essentially anything with a pastry crust and a filling, or “Pi” in it’s name will suffice.

Ottawa has an Arby’s! Well, Kanata, at any rate. Yeah, we hear you saying “So what?!” – but it’s been nearly two decades since Arby’s vacated the city, and it’s nice to have them back, even if it is a bit of a trek for us to get there. It’s certainly better than having to drive to Kingston.

Check out this scan from last week’s Zellers flyer. In it, you’ll find a wonderful, nutritious, calorie-conscious (not to mention delicious!) meal – all for less than $10! Now THAT’s a cheap eat! Plus, if you do eat this way on a regular basis, you’re sure to look like the model in the photo! Okay, seriously though – how many things are wrong with this

Advertorial Pizza Hut’s New Soft Shell Crabbiatta Pasta $12.90 There was a time when Pizza Hut was really Pizza “Hut”. I don’t know how many of you would remember this, but in the good old days, there was one particular Pizza Hut restaurant in Jurong that was in a standalone building with its own parking lot outside.

In many ways, he is doing what our friend Jason at Ya Kwang was doing before he migrated to Perth. Chicken Stew with Parsley Dumplings Recipe What do you do with a few turnips, potatoes, carrots, leeks, tomatoes and celery? I guess you can make a soup, but after having finished a 3 week vegetarian / vegan / raw diet , I wasn’t going down that path. F that, I just wanted some MEAT and POTATOES; so I was besides myself when I happened to find this recipe that used all of the above.

Kim Chee – “baechu” I guess like many people, my interest in Korean food started as a result of watching K drama. It didn’t really take off after “Stairway to Heaven” which I felt was a series to test your endurance for “Chee Kekness” (frustration). But interest begin to brew after “Sik Gek” and blossomed in “Da Chang Jing”.

Ieatishootipost has won “Best Asian Weblog” at the 1oth Annual Bloggies Awards ! Many thanks to everyone who logged in to support the blog! It is indeed gratifying to know that my work has been recognized by foreign readers and that we managed to win one for Singapore! Anyway one blogger commented that food blogs are insidiously taking over the blogosphere as the most popular subject of blogs. It is not official but I always maintain that Singapore probably has the most number of food blogs per capita in the world. There are so many food blogs now that we have lost count, don’t you think

I’ve taken a few cooking classes at ICE (Institute of Culinary Education) in NY and enjoyed them very much, but I have to say the classes at Astor have one huge advantage: GREAT WINE! As you would expect from their great wine selection, all cooking classes at Astor come with great great wine pairing tips.

It is said that of all the major cuisines of China, Teochew food is probably the most suitable for the Japanese palate. The emphasis on freshness of seafood and the use of simple flavours to highlight the original flavour of the produce is very similar. When I was at Tsukiji market last year, I realise that both cultures also have a strong fishcake culture

The nomination round for the Best of the Best Chicken Rice in Singapore is opened! This one is going to be a tough one I think, but we will try to see if there is one Chicken Rice in Singapore which has taken over the throne from the legendary Swee Kee Chicken Rice. There are many Chicken Rice stalls in Singapore, so I expect that we would probably end up with at least 5 to 10 nominees.
